Aluminum pigment is one of the important metal pigments. It is deeply loved by consumers because of its unique aesthetic effect and anti-corrosion performance. In recent years, its consumption has increased rapidly. Exterior decoration coatings, household appliances coatings, printing inks and plastic processing industries. With the continuous strengthening of people's awareness of environmental protection and the continuous improvement of government environmental protection regulations, traditional organic solvent-based products in the coatings and ink industries will inevitably be replaced by new safe and environmentally friendly water-based products. Water-based coatings and water-based inks use water as a solvent or Therefore, the aluminum pigments used in water-based coatings and water-based inks have different requirements from those used in solvent-based coatings. Aluminum pigments for water-based coatings and water-based inks must first be effectively dispersed in water, that is, the pigments should be hydrophilic on the surface, and secondly, they must maintain high chemical stability in aqueous media. However, aluminum is chemically active and easily reacts with oxygen or water.

Therefore, in an aerobic environment, all aluminum surfaces are covered with a thin layer of aluminum oxide with a thickness of no more than 10nm. The main component is Al2O3. Dry Al2O3 is Lewis acid, which is easy to adsorb water molecules in a humid environment. The hydroxyl groups and metal ions combine in various forms such as Al-OH, Al-O-OH, etc., so that the surface of aluminum has a large number of hydroxyl groups. In addition, pure aluminum is also prone to react in acidic or alkaline aqueous solutions, releasing a large amount of hydrogen. This not only corrodes the surface of the aluminum pigment, but also affects the metallic luster and stability of the aluminum, and even causes an explosion, which brings unsafe factors to production. Therefore, the water-based research of aluminum pigments has become a research hotspot in the industry, and certain progress has been made. The commonly used surface treatment methods of water-based aluminum pigments can be divided into surface corrosion inhibitor method and coating film method according to the different mechanism of action. The surface corrosion inhibitor method refers to adding a substance that can inhibit its corrosion in the aluminum pigment system. This substance can chemically react or physically interact with the active groups on the surface of the aluminum pigment, thereby forming a dense layer on the surface of the aluminum pigment. of inorganic or organic layers. The coating film method refers to the method of sol-gel method, organic-inorganic hybrid and other methods to form one or more layers of coating film on the surface of aluminum pigments.
